Classmate Sherry Pipkin (Dickey) informed us of Bob Henderson's death, which occurred 14 years ago.  Bob had been on our “Missing” classmate list. We have not found an obituary, yet. Excerpts from a Seattle PI news story from July 30, 2001, reported as follows:

“Stunned friends and neighbors recall Sunday's crash victims”

In Bothell, somber neighbors remembered Kristin and Robert Henderson for their years of kindness and for Robert Henderson's annual portrayal of Santa Claus, complete with beautiful, homemade toys for the neighborhood kids.

In Sumner, the flag flew at half staff, as the tiny Fire Department mourned the loss of one of their "brothers," 27-year-old firefighter Troy Fausey.

And in Bethlehem, Conn., neighbors were stunned by the news that Paul Burns, a 47-year-old father of three, died when his six-seat, one-engine Piper Cherokee crashed Sunday afternoon near Puyallup. He owned the plane with Troy Fausey's father, who flew with him from Connecticut Friday but got off the plane before its ill-fated flight.

On Sunday, relatives and friends had been taking turns on the plane for sightseeing, which was supposed to cap a summer weekend camping trip. But shortly after takeoff from Pierce County Airport the plane sputtered and crashed into a family's backyard, killing four and leaving two young people clinging to life.

Yesterday, 25-year-old Becky Fausey -- Troy's wife and one of the Hendersons' four daughters – died at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.

Justin Holderegger, 20, was also in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, with abdominal and head injuries and multiple fractures. From Gold Bar, he is the boyfriend of one of the Henderson's daughters.

"This is the most tragic thing in the world," said Lenore Heffernan, who lives near the Hendersons. Kristin Henderson, 52, was a secretary at nearby Canyon Creek Elementary School; Robert Henderson, 54, was a retired railroad engineer. They loved to entertain.

Every Easter, the couple organized egg hunts for neighborhood kids. On Halloween, they turned their flower-adorned gazebo into a spooky hideout.

Twice a year, Kristin Henderson invited the school staff to their home, for a winter tea and a summer barbecue.

And every Christmas, her husband, a talented woodworker and upholsterer, donned a red suit and hat and handed out toys he made.

"They were the most wonderful people. They just opened their doors and hearts to everyone," Heffernan said.
