In Memory

Dave Hollcraft

Dave Hollcraft

We only recently obtained an obituary for classmate, David Hollcraft, who died December 27, 2021. Here, it is reprinted from the Edmonds Beacon, 1/27/2022:

David Ray Hollcraft was born Feb. 9, 1947, in Portland, Ore., and passed away suddenly on Dec. 27, 2021. David Ray Hollcraft was born Feb. 9, 1947, in Portland, Ore., and passed away suddenly on Dec. 27, 2021.

He was the first of nine children born to Marjorie and Thomas Hollcraft. David grew up in the Edmonds area, initially on the farm in Mountlake Terrace, raising assorted farm animals. At 16, he entered the Saint Edwards Seminary to become a Catholic priest.

Soon after enrolling, he realized he was homesick, and moved back home. He was from the first graduating class of Meadowdale High School in 1965. Dave married his high school sweetheart, Paula, and they had two beautiful boys, Tracey and Shawn.

Dave was drafted in 1967 and served in the U.S. Army, spending two years in Germany during the Vietnam War. Previously, he worked for this family business, Magna Design, and later as a sales representative for the Furniture Mart.

Dave changed careers and became a long-haul truck driver, and retired from Cadman Quarry. David loved babies, and in 2006 he welcomed his awesome grandson, Matthew.

Dave's hobbies included hunting with his father, sons, and brothers Ted and Jon. He loved salmon fishing with Paula, his sons, and grandson. He smiled biggest when he was razor clamming with his youngest sister, Terrie. He was most grateful for his sister Pat cutting his hair perfectly, and shared a love of horses with sister Nancy.

He told his sister, Susan, all her prayers for him helped lead him to accept Jesus Christ as his savior and lord. David loved conversing with his book-smart brother, Jeffrey, and marveled at how much he learned from his younger brother when he listened.

David's greatest joys in later years were being with best friend, Skip, going to Holy Rosary Church, praying the Rosary, and being outdoors feeding the animals around the Edmonds area and waterfront.

Dave loved God, his family, siblings, relatives, and friends wholeheartedly. He had the most generous heart, was outgoing, fun-loving and used irreverent and satirical humor often. He kept us laughing.

Although he went through many difficult life situations, he was a fighter, lover, teacher, protector, and supporter of all. There was no one quite like Dave, and he will truly be missed.

He is survived by two brothers, Jeff and Jon: four sisters, Susan, Pat, Nancy, and Terrie; sons Tracey and Shawn; grandson Matthew; and many nephews and nieces. David will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery.
